On this Independence Day I started thinking to collaborate at a wiki for something like Ben+ology or Ben+sophy…
Welcome to pitch in. Here is a raw framework: 1. Definition of Benology (Start with Ben’s story). 2. Why do we need to generate a Benology? 3. Different levels of social construct on Benology in the Digitalizational (2.0->∞) Age at the different levels” Micro level: individual’s biological and psychological development Meso Level: socialization processes circumvented within the major social institutions Macro Level- dynamics of mega-social institution along with the Digitalizational Age Chrono level- the interweaving of mega system and Time Posted by Li-chin(Crystal) Huang at 11:19 AM 0 comments A short note- What a great connection!!- On this Independence day, I got the chance to make a connection with one of my colleagues who I seldom get a chance to meet with due to we teach at different department. Now I got the opportunity to chat with her on my Facebook about Ben. I respond to it- Dear Rorey, Being a supreme beings ("2-10+ legged friends") lover, the song tells the cross species understanding and love (yes, seemingly it is less complex to be with a friend like Ben than those of non-Ben??!!) Expanding such an understanding to the categoried differneces of human conditions across the intersectionalities of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, class and disability...etc. is a great endeavors of our species, in particular, regarding the one with markded status (in this discipline, it is defined as a visible social position which is undesirable, stigmatized and thus discredited via social construct or social ideology.....). Somethimes pop culture and youth culture reveal certain degree of reality.... Posted by Li-chin(Crystal) Huang at 10:19 AM 0 comments |

Bombarded by the media frenzies about Michael Jackson's death, children, debt, Neverland, properties, will, and legality, critically I found "Ben" is the only song that I 'realize’ touching my soul "truly ‘madly’ and deeply."
Ben told the stories of an inner state that relates to my own conditions sociologically. The lyrics of Ben subtly and elegantly expresses W.E.B. Du Bois' "double consciousness", C. Cooley's "looking glass self" and Becker's labeling theorythat we have discussed in class recently. The lyrics of Ben: Ben, the two of us need look no more We both found what we were looking for With a friend to call my own I'll never be alone And you, my friend, will see You've got a friend in me (you've got a friend in me) Ben, you're always running here and there You feel you're not wanted anywhere If you ever look behind And don't like what you find There's one thing you should know You've got a place to go (you've got a place to go) I used to say "I" and "me" Now it's "us", now it's "we" I used to say "I" and "me" Now it's "us", now it's "we" Ben, most people would turn you away I don't listen to a word they say They don't see you as I do I wish they would try to I'm sure they'd think again If they had a friend like Ben (a friend) Like Ben (like Ben) Like Ben |

Inspired by my best friend's " When I say...' I am a Christian;", I reflected on myself as a teacher. I " plagiarized" the original poem into the following messages: When I say..."I am a teacher", I'm not shouting "I have a job". I'm whispering "to fulfill a noble call " - That is why I chose this way. When I say..."I am a teacher", I speak this with honor and responsibility. I'm confessing that I am so privileged, and need to respond to the CALL to be my guide. When I say..."I am a teacher" I'm not trying to be superficially strong, I'm professing that I'm still in my learning process that my students and colleagues are my teachers as well, and pray for strength surrounding around me to carry on. When I say..."I am a teacher" I'm not expressing of what I am able to do, but admitting I have weakness to do the best I can, thus continuously learning to empower myself to accomplish what I should do. When I say..."I am a teacher", I'm claiming to be a lifelong learner, for my ignorance is too visible, but the Supreme Power believes that I can make a difference in another person's life. When I say..."I am a teacher", I still feel the sting of pain that I have not devoted my life enough to the souls that I touch every day. I have my share of heartaches, which is why I keep on seeking the Supreme Power's help. When I say..."I am teacher" I am a messenger as well as catalyst from the Supreme Power, via it to plow the land of knowledge and conscience with mind and soul. |
